Celebrating 700 aniversary of Charles IV' heritage

2016 is the year of the 700th aniversary of Charles IV.
Charles IV. (1316 – 1378), the Bohemian king and the emperor of the Holy Roman empire of the German nation presents an outstanding personality of Bohemian and the European history. He was an ambitious ruler, a farsighted politician with a fine urbanistic vision.
All over the year 2016 there will be a series of interesting actions and events, exhibitions and historical reconstructions, meetings, conferences and special touristic programs in Prague. The aim of these actions is to remind our tourists about this historical event and to show an outstanding personality of Charles IV and his great role in the European history. The 700th aniversary of Charles IV is a good reason to know and see more about Charles IV, his deeds and his Prague. Prague City Tourism organization will publish a thematical leaflet “Prague of Charles IV -700 years”.

Prague will attract this year tourists for an outstanding event related with the 700th anniversary of one of the most powerful kings and emperors of the middle ages in Europe: Charles IV. This is one of the most remarkable world celebrations protected by the UNESCO in 2016. The National Galery, Charles University, National museum and Technical museum of Prague will prepare several exhibitions related to the Heritage of Charles IV: "Vita Caroli", "Deeds of Charles IV through centuries", "Second life of Charles IV", "Emperor Charles IV, 1316-2016" in the Walenstein riding stables. The Charles bridge towers will have expositions "The tower mistery-Charles IV. bridge towers. The Prague historical house of the "Golden Ring" near the Old Town square will prepare a permanent exposition "Charles IV, Prague and the Luxembourg dinasty". Many artefacts rarely exhibited will be shown to public and the aim of the exposition is to show Charles IV not only as a great ruler but also to display the day by day life of that outstanding personality. The Charles University founded by Charles IV will stage a reconstruction of the coronation of the ruler as a Bohemian king. For the coronation tradition Charles IV ordered the fabrication of St.Venceslas crown which later became a symbol of the Bohemian state and the power of a Czech ruler.
Also Vysehrad castle will be the venue of the reconstrustion of the coronation traditions when the future ruler had to esteem the bast sandals and the satchel of Premysl, the plougher the evening before the coronation ceremony. Special tours are prepared to show places related to Charles IV in Prague, Carlsbad, Karlstein, Norimberg, Koenigstein to adults and children visiting our country and related cities. http://www.pragensis.com/tours_in_prague
