The marvelous Alpine city upon Salzach river inevitably reminds of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who was born in this fairy tale city. The excursion begins in the New Town leading to the picturesque Mirabel Palace and gardens related with a well known musical film The Sounds of Music. Through the Staatsbrucke we pass over the Salzach river to the Old Town. The shopping street of Getreidegasse boasts the birthplace house of Mozart. In the Old Market Square we visit Fuerst konditerei, where the original Mozartkugel chocolate was created in 1890 by Paul Fuerst. The original Mozart chocolate balls wrapping was of blue colour. You will visit St. Rupert and St. Virgil cathedral, St.Peter monastery founded in the 7th century with a romantic cemetry and catacombs. Then using a funicular you will reach the Hohensalzburg fortress created in the 11th century by Salzburg archbishops. In your leisure time you can visit numerous museums, art galleries and a Residenz museum of archbishops' treasury. The New and the old town of the city became UNESCO historical heritage site from 1997.
