Regensburg, Germany from Prague

A marvelous city upon the Danube river, known as the oldest German city founded by the Romans as a small fortress at the 2nd century A.D. The city had very important relations with north Italian cities united in the Hansa union. The traces of Roman culture can be seen everywhere and also the remnants of the former eastern gates of the Roman fortress- Porta Praetoria. The nobles of the city invested in the construction of the Steinerne bruecke, the stone bridge which is considered the oldest preserved bridge in Germany from the 12th century. With its residence towers Regensburg reminds north Italian cities. We begin the excursion from the Stadtamhof, a suburban village near the Danube canal constructed in the 19th century to provide navigation of river ships in order to conserve the stone bridge of the 12th century. During the excursion we visit the St.Peter cathedral of the 13th century and the St.Emmeram church founded in the 8th century. You will see the Old Town hall from the 13th century where sessions of the Electors of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation took place from the 16th century. In 2006 the historical core of the old town was considered as a historical UNESCO heritage site.
Entry to museums and castles is paid extra.
