Dresden and Konigstein Castle

One of the most beautiful cities of Germany nicknamed as Florence on the Elba. Reborn from the ashes of the terrible bombardments at the end of WWII the city offers hundreds of museums and galleries, including the famous summer residence of Saxon kings Zwinger hosting the world famous gallery with paintings and objects of art returned to the city by the Soviet Union after the war. The recently restored Georgian Palace presents a unique collection of treasures and jewels belonging to Saxon palatine electors and King August the Strong. The first european porcelain was invented by alchimist Berger in the 18th century at the court of August the Strong within the walls of the Royal residence palace. On the way to Dresden tourists will visit a Saxon castle of Konigstein from the 13th century founded by Bohemian princes.
The castle is considered one of the oldest and magnificent castles of Saxonia. During world wars of the 20th century there was a camp for military prisioners and a shelter for pictures from the Dresden gallery.
